The Artist
Leonard Raven-Hill (10 March 1867 – 31 March 1942) was an English artist, illustrator and cartoonist. Best known perhaps for his association as an illustrator with ‘Punch’, he was also the art editor and contributing illustrator for the C19th humorous periodical ‘PICK-ME-UP’. Many Pick-Me-Up illustrators became celebrated names, and in its twenty-year run it seems to have invited every talented artist in England: artists included the likes of Leslie Wilson, Phil May, Rene Bull, A.E. Sterner, Sidney Sime, Dudley Hardy, H.S. Hebblethwaite, Charles Altamont Doyle, M. Woolf, John Hassall, A. Chasemore, Max Beerbohm, Thomas Arthur Browne, Alfred Gray, Albert Thomas, J. f. Sulivan, Alfred Leete and Hilda Cowham.
