Brabazon, Hercules


Hercules Brabazon Brabazon (1821 – 1906) was a British pastellist and watercolour artist. Initially raised in Paris and then East Sussex, he was educated at Harrow and Trinity College, Cambridge, after which, and having gained financial independence upon the death of his elder brother, he led a life as a gentleman traveller studying art and painting. he was inspired by the works of artists including Velazquez and Turner. A friendship with the artist John Singer Sargent, amongst others, encouraged his pursuit of a career as an exhibiting artist relatively late in life.
